Diane Lam

Diane Lam is principal of Dotrio, Inc., a woman-owned interior design firm specializing in academic and public library design and education interiors. She has more than 20 years of experience in the contract, education and library furniture industry. She is deeply committed to enhancing quality of life through a human-centered approach to design.

Diane provides interior design consulting services with a strong emphasis in furniture programming, design, specification and procurement strategies. Her experience in education interiors includes early childhood classrooms, K-12, community college and public and private university environments. She commands a deep understanding of not only the various types of spaces that make up a learning environment but also how students interact with one another within those spaces. From private focused study areas to social collaborative spaces, student learning can be enriched and enhanced by the built environment. Thoughtful selection of colors, materials, furniture and equipment improves the overall satisfaction of staff and students alike.

Her passion for library design stems back to happy childhood memories of weekly visits to the public library. This early exposure to libraries created the foundation of becoming a life long learner. Assisting libraries to become the heart of their communities can be done through a considerate approach to the interiors. Careful attention to program, layout, circulation, shelving needs, colors, materials, lighting, signage and furniture can stimulate creativity, intellectual curiosity and foster social connections.

Diane received a B.A. in Design from UCLA and a M.A. in Interior and Environmental Design from Cornell University. Dotrio, Inc. is certified California Small Business (SB), Local Small Business Enterprise with the County of Los Angeles (LSBE), and approved Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Woman Business Enterprise (WBE).
